Embracing the UNA-USA vision of "A world in which humanity
is spared the scourge of war, human rights are honored, the natural
environment is protected and the United States is a constructive
member of the United Nations for the well-being of all humankind,"
SF Young Professionals is devoted to educating and mobilizing
young professionals at the local level to support the universal
principles and work of the UN.
The committee held a meeting on July 21, 2011 to welcome new
volunteers, discuss a strategic plan for the upcoming year, and
brainstorm future events. During the meeting, SF Young Professionals
established its immediate objectives for Fall 2011, which include
hosting a social event to raise initial awareness, reach out
to the community, and encourage individuals with an interest
to become involved as members. As new volunteers join and the
committee expands, SF Young Professionals plans to establish
networking opportunities, initiate an internship program for
students, and conduct fundraising efforts to ensure its continued
mission and success in educating the American public about UN-identified
global issues that concern us all.
To this end, SF Young Professionals is seeking to engage young
professionals in its ongoing projects and discussions of international
affairs, and provides an exciting opportunity to interact with
like-minded individuals from all walks of life in learning more
about current UN issues and the work of UNA-USA. While all are
welcome, YP members are typically between the ages of 21-40 and
compose a diverse group of individuals with backgrounds in business,
law, government, nonprofit, the arts, and philanthropy.
