2013 UNA-USA SF Chapter Goals and accompanying objectives and tasks
Please note, goals are multi-year by definition while objectives and tasks are meant to be completed within one year, our Fiscal Year

The UNA SF supports/ will work toward the Millennium Development Goals with an emphasis on #1, 2, 3, and 7

Goal Area #1:
UNA-USA SF Chapter will act to connect San Francisco citizens and community organizations, including the government and NGOs, to promote peace through advocacy and education

Objective 1: Drive advocacy activities in the community by coordinating with at least one other organization and hosting or cohosting at least one ‘legislative visit day’ by 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 1: Connect into the San Francisco advocacy network
Task 2: Meet with legislators to educate and advocate about UN initiatives, as passed down by UNA-USA

Objective 2:  Develop and maintain a minimum of 10 relationships with consulates and community organizations, BY 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 1: Conduct outreach to potential partner organizations to share resources, including potential new members by 3rd Quarter
Task 2: Create an annual calendar of events to share with the community by 3rd Quarter
Task 3: Construct a plan for consistent contact with the consulates by 2nd Quarter
Task 4: Develop official and publicly acknowledged alliances with organizations that share in United Nation goals and does not pose any conflict of interest, by 1st Quarter 2013
Task 5: Volunteer at a minimum of 2 community events per year by sharing our members, our time, or by donating money or fundraising

Objective 3: Expand and enhance the special place San Francisco has in the founding and existence of the UN
Task 1: Work to connect the city of San Francisco goals and initiatives to the MDGs, by 2nd Quarter
Task 2: Host or cohost a walking tour of UN monuments, by the 4th Quarter
Task 3: Promote and host events for UN Annual ‘days of recognition’. Host or partner with community organizations for Earth Day, International Women’s Day, the anniversaries of the UN, and World Poetry Day

Goal Area #2:
The UNA-USA SF Chapter will work to support Millennium Development Goal (MDG) #1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger

Objective 1: Research and partner with existing organizations that address poverty in their mission, either by promoting awareness and education or aiding in poverty reduction
Task 1: Identify organizations with missions related to the mission of the UNA SF
Task 2: Establish ongoing relationships with potential partner organizations and collaborate on events
Task 3: Invite guest speakers to up to 2 forums annually to educate the membership and community about poverty

Objective 2: SF Chapter support of microcredit sponsorships
Task 1: Introduce microcredit lending programs to the chapter
Task 2: Select 1-2 sponsorships annually
Task 3: Provide education and progress reports on existing sponsorships

Objective 3: Poll and identify community perceptions about the UN

Goal Area #3:
The UNA-USA SF Chapter will work to support Millennium Development Goal (MDG) #2: Achieve Universal Primary Education

Objective 1: Build awareness in the community on MDG #2 through the development and execution of at least 2 new initiatives, by 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 1: Host or cohost an event to promote healthy breakfast and lunch programs in schools by 2nd Quarter
Task 2: Host or cohost a community forum on MDG #2 by 2nd Quarter 2013

Goal Area #4:
The UNA-USA SF Chapter will work to support Millennium Development Goal (MDG) #3: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women

Objective 1: Build awareness in the community on MDG #3 through the development and execution of at least 2 new initiatives, by 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 1: Host a community forum on MDG #2 by 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 2: Bring at least 3 women who are influential in the local community and/or global community to become chapter members, speakers, and/or advisory board members, by the 2nd Quarter 2013

Objective 2: Get the 5th World Conference on Women hosted in San Francisco
Task 1: Promote and participate in 5WCW committee initiatives within San Francisco, continuous activity

Goal Area #5:
The UNA-USA SF Chapter will work to support Millennium Development Goal (MDG) #7: Ensure Environmental Sustainability

Objective 1: Build awareness in the community on MDG #7 through the development and execution of at least 2 new initiatives, by 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 1: Host or cohost a community forum on MDG #7 by 2nd Quarter 2013

Objective 2: Practice sustainability as an organization, ongoing
Task 1: Host or participate in local gardening efforts, one by 3rd Quarter
Task 2: Host a zero waste event, by 1st Quarter 2013

Objective 3: Create and sponsor Art to raise awareness by 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 1: The Art Group will meet to devise a plan to work with members and the community by 3rd Quarter
Task 2: Host or cohost a landscaping art contest for Earth Day by 2nd Quarter 2013

Goal Area #6:
Build UNA-USA SF Chapter to be one of the leading chapters of UNA-USA

Objective 1: Double participating volunteer and member count by 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 1: Recruit and appoint a Membership Chair and Committee, by 3rd Quarter
Task 2: Host monthly member and volunteer events, starting 3rd Quarter
Task 3: Reestablish active and functioning committees (Education, Membership/nominating, YP, Advocacy, and Education), by 4th Quarter
Task 4: Reconnect with past members and volunteers, by 1st Quarter 2013
Task 5: Gather feedback at events to improve our organization, ongoing
Task 6: Develop and maintain an advisory board of San Francisco community leaders, by 1st Quarter 2013

Objective 2: Develop a budget for the Fiscal Year and have money to carry over into the next fiscal year to support the strategic plan
Task 1: Develop a budget for the Fiscal Year, by the 3rd Quarter
Task 2: Create a fundraising working group to develop ideas and manage fundraising efforts, BY 3rd Quarter
Task 3: Conduct market research to identify potential community sponsors and available grants, BY 3rd Quarter
Task 4: Develop a strategy and necessary resources for outreach efforts with potential donors, BY 3rd Quarter
Task 5:  Conduct focused outreach efforts to build support with community leaders and stakeholders, BY 3rd Quarter
Task 6: Convert 30% of new and existing volunteers to members

Objective 3: Improve and spread the brand and UNA-USA SF Chapter in the community
Task 1: Work with the communications team to develop strategy for communication to volunteers and members and the community. The team will explore: YouTube/TV channel for UNA USA SF, a public access show, a Video Blog
Task 2: Host a grand reopening of the UNA-USA SF Chapter, BY 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 3: Create an awards program for community activists and leaders to present at our UN Anniversary celebration, BY 4th Quarter

Objective 4: Drive up youth involvement
Task 1: Participate in and/or sponsor a Model UN, BY 4th Quarter
Task 2: Work with the communication committee and education committee to develop education materials for youth, BY 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 3: Host a contest in schools to promote the basic principles of the UN, BY 2nd Quarter 2013
Task 4: Develop a mentoring structure and ambassador program in schools and universities, by 2nd Quarter 2013
