  1. I want to get involved but how knowledgeable do I need to be on the topic before I participate?

Initially, many global issues feel overwhelming especially if you are not involved in these activities on a daily basis. However, if you are reading this, you most likely have the impetus needed, the curiosity and interest in the topics on our advocacy agenda. The UNA-USA staff does an excellent job of providing sample letters for you to use to send to your elected officials. The UNA-USA website also provides easy-to-understand fact sheets, UNAís position and various viewpoints to quickly get you apprised of the issue. Donít feel intimidated, you probably know more than you think. Call on UNA-SF for resources, questions.

Your targeted audience, they usually determines what you choose as the most effective communication vehicles. To legislators and elected officials, they are very interested in their constituents concerns. A letter or fax clearly stating your message appears to still be more effective than emails. UNA-SFís approach to advocacy is one of peace and constructive communications.

No, You donít need to be a lobbyist. You are representing yourself.
